Tuesday, June 9, 2026 Breakout Sessions are focused on the following topics:
St. Johns College Track
Engage in a Socratic-style seminar on selected American founding texts. Through close reading and reflective dialogue, participants will revisit first principles of justice, freedom, and equality in a collegial setting. Held at St. John’s beautiful campus in Santa Fe, this compelling seminar fosters camaraderie in an environment that allows for extended dialogue on liberal arts education, democratic principles, and the role of civic dialogue—core to both the college’s ethos and democratic citizenship itself.
Judicial Science School Track (SC)
This curated experience with Los Alamos National Labs offers judges an exclusive introduction to the world of scientific discovery and its connection to justice. Hosted by scientists from LANL. Participants will explore how scientific knowledge is developed, tested, and communicated, and how to assess the validity of scientific evidence. Through dialogue and reflection, judges will consider parallels between scientific and judicial reasoning—uncertainty, evidence, and integrity—and how both disciplines shape public trust.
Justice at the Intersections Track (JI)
Justice at the Intersections explores the critical intersections between justice, mental health, tribal sovereignty, access to justice, and pretrial reform. Participants will engage in discussions and sessions that highlight innovative approaches to creating fair, compassionate, and culturally responsive justice systems. Topics include strategies to support individuals with behavioral health needs in the justice system, strengthening collaboration with tribal courts and communities, equity in justice, and advancing pretrial practices that balance public safety with individual rights. Through shared experiences, research, and practical solutions, this track aims to foster a dialogue that promotes healing, respect, and true justice for all.
Practical Skills for Judges Track (PS)
This track is dedicated to developing the practical skills essential to effective and equitable judging. Sessions will provide hands-on strategies for case and courtroom management, clear and impartial communication, and procedural fairness. Participants will also explore emerging topics such as technology in the courtroom, trauma-informed judging, and judicial well-being. Designed to strengthen core competencies and enhance confidence in judicial performance, this track equips judges with tools to promote fairness, efficiency, and public trust in the justice system.
AI and the Future of the Judiciary Track (AI)
This track explores the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence in the justice system and its implications for judicial decision-making, court administration, and access to justice. Sessions will examine current and emerging applications of AI—such as data analytics, case management tools, and decision-support systems—alongside the ethical, legal, and practical challenges they present. Judges will gain insight into how AI can enhance efficiency, transparency, and consistency while maintaining judicial independence and fairness. This track aims to equip participants with the knowledge needed to engage thoughtfully with technological innovation and its impact on the future of the judiciary.
